Miniatures by Dan

I've begun a new series of sculpture that I'm calling
"Miniatures by Dan"

These are small pieces.
They range in size from 2" to "8 in height.

Thus will be an ongoing series.

de'monte'

De'monte'
is a minimalist abstract sculpture.

This sculpture, excluding the base is comprised of only four elements.
Three of those elements are simple geometric shapes,
a square, a rectangle, and a circle.
The fourth element, a free form rusty metal rod,
is what brings movement and depth to the piece.

This is a relatively small piece,
measuring only 14" in height.

Paperweights

The other day while puttering around in the scrap pile,
feeling totally unambitious,
I decided that I was thinking too hard and decided to grab a few some small pieces
and just get to work.

The results were paperweights.

They are made from bits and pieces that I would
usually incorporate into larger pieces.
It was a pleasant diversion and helped to get me out of my funk.

If you are interested in purchasing one
they are available at An Octopus Garden
in Millville, NJ
or on my ETSY page.

My ETSY Shop

My favorite sculptures are those which would be called 'tabletop' sculptures.
They range in size from 18 to 36 inches.

However, because I have limited space, I started
creating smaller pieces.
These pieces are easier to store and transport,
and also are quite suitable for shipping,
as the freight costs are affordable.

It is for this reason that I opened an ETSY shop.
ETSY is an online medium for selling handmade goods
and is especially suited for selling smaller works of art.

Affordable Art

AA #7
$50

We need art.

The human animal is different from all the
other animals. While we share many
characteristics with our fellow planet mates,
the need for water, air, shelter, even
companionship, we are alone in our appreciation
of art. Wolves may howl at the moon, but I don't
believe it is because they find it beautiful.

Geometric #1
$85

We are visual beings. Our eyes allow us to
experience the world both near and far. We
must be relatively near to the source of the
stimuli to hear, taste, smell or feel. But with
our eyes we experience things that are miles
away, even millions of miles, in the case
of the heavens.

Art lifts our spirits. It renews us. It arouses
our sense of awe. It is so important to us
that we spend millions of dollars on it.
Take van Gogh's "Sunflowers", for instance.

AA #9
$45
What drove a man to spend 40 million dollars for a piece of canvas covered
with a few ounces of oil and pigments.
Obviously he saw more than that.
He saw something so precious that
he was willing to spend what was
at that time an unprecedented amount
of money.

This brings me to the point of this post.
I believe that art shouldn't be only for
the wealthy. I know there are many who would like to have a piece of fine art
to call their own, but they feel that art
is beyond their budget.
AA Red #1
$35

To this end, I am introducing my
'Affordable Art' series. These are small
sculptures priced to be affordable to
those on even the tightest of budgets.
These pieces range in size from five to
eighteen inches tall. I hope to keep them
priced from $100 or less, with many
pieces priced under $50. Their small size
also allows them to be shipped at a
reasonable cost.
They make great gifts for the art
lover in your life, or for the person who
has everything.
