2018 The Year in Review

2018
was an eventful year at Studio 419.
First came the name change,
from Dan's Recycled Art to Studio 419.

The year started with the Affiliates Artist show at
Riverview Renaissance Center for the Arts.

==========================================================

In April I was the featured artist at
An Octopus's Garden.
This has become an annual event for Earth Day.

======================================================

June was a busy month.
I completed Community Spirit
for Homan Park in Swedesboro

======================================================

Also in June
I held my first Open House and Sale
at Studio 419

=========================================================

In September I began exhibiting
in an exciting new gallery in Swarthmore, PA

=====================================================

The year ended with Christmas sales
at various galleries.

================================================

Of course, none of this would be possible without
my lovely wife and agent extraordinaire,
Patrice

New Pieces for Upcoming Summer Shows

Here are a few new pieces
that I will be debuting at one or another of my summer shows.

Look for these pieces this summer.

Lefty Loosey - Righty Tighty

Lefty Loosey and Righty Tighty
are my two newest wall hangings.
The titles come from an old mechanic's saying.
When someone was unsure which way to turn a screw, the
mechanic would say "lefty loosey, righty tighty"

Lefty - Loosey
Righty - Tighty

These two pieces prominently feature tools that turn-
wrenches, screwdrivers, drill bits, etc.

They are on the larger side, measuring 24" in diameter by 40" in height.

de'monte'

De'monte'
is a minimalist abstract sculpture.

This sculpture, excluding the base is comprised of only four elements.
Three of those elements are simple geometric shapes,
a square, a rectangle, and a circle.
The fourth element, a free form rusty metal rod,
is what brings movement and depth to the piece.

This is a relatively small piece,
measuring only 14" in height.

Earth Day 2013

Once again An Octopus's Garden has invited
me to be the featured artist for Earth Day Weekend.
I really enjoy being a part of the Earth Day
celebrations. It gives me an opportunity to show
what can be done with used and recycled materials.

There are many people doing many amazing
things with recycled material, from art to building
construction, and everything in between. One doesn't
need to be overly creative or have to "think outside
the box" to be a part. Just using one less paper cup
or napkin a day is an easy way to help protect our
dwindling and fragile resources.

This year's festivities kick off with the Third Friday
events on Friday, April 19, 2013, 6-9:30 pm.
Third Friday is always fun. The art district stays open
late and there is music all over town with great shopping,
food and drink.

I have been busy making new sculpture for the weekend.
I will also have with me more of my WORDS . They always
seem to be a favorite.

I have created a new series of sculpture, STICKS. These
are small sculptures designed to be both fun and
affordable. I have made one larger version of a STICK
sculpture that will be given to a lucky attendee. So stop by
and put your name in the hat.

This sculpture will be given away to the winner of the drawing.

LOVE

A while ago, Maryann Kuntz of An Octopus's Garden
informed me that the shop would be having a
special shopping event for Valentines Day.
For quite some time she has been asking me
to create pieces with a topical theme. That isn't
normally what I do, but I did make a few spiders
for her at Halloween. They moved fairly well, but I
didn't plan on doing other holiday pieces.

With Valentines Day coming up, and me having
some free time, I decided to make a few pieces
with LOVE as the subject. I took a few down
to her shop and they were sold the next day.
So I spent all day Friday making more.

This has been a fun endeavor. I was quite surprised
by the many different ways I found to make those
four letters.

Valentines Day is right around the corner. This year,
rather than getting the same old flowers that will be
brown in a week, consider getting your Valentine
a gift that will last a lifetime.
These are available exclusively at An Octopus's Garden.
They are located in the Village.on.High, on High St.
in Millville, NJ

Affordable Art

AA #7
$50

We need art.

The human animal is different from all the
other animals. While we share many
characteristics with our fellow planet mates,
the need for water, air, shelter, even
companionship, we are alone in our appreciation
of art. Wolves may howl at the moon, but I don't
believe it is because they find it beautiful.

Geometric #1
$85

We are visual beings. Our eyes allow us to
experience the world both near and far. We
must be relatively near to the source of the
stimuli to hear, taste, smell or feel. But with
our eyes we experience things that are miles
away, even millions of miles, in the case
of the heavens.

Art lifts our spirits. It renews us. It arouses
our sense of awe. It is so important to us
that we spend millions of dollars on it.
Take van Gogh's "Sunflowers", for instance.

AA #9
$45
What drove a man to spend 40 million dollars for a piece of canvas covered
with a few ounces of oil and pigments.
Obviously he saw more than that.
He saw something so precious that
he was willing to spend what was
at that time an unprecedented amount
of money.

This brings me to the point of this post.
I believe that art shouldn't be only for
the wealthy. I know there are many who would like to have a piece of fine art
to call their own, but they feel that art
is beyond their budget.
AA Red #1
$35

To this end, I am introducing my
'Affordable Art' series. These are small
sculptures priced to be affordable to
those on even the tightest of budgets.
These pieces range in size from five to
eighteen inches tall. I hope to keep them
priced from $100 or less, with many
pieces priced under $50. Their small size
also allows them to be shipped at a
reasonable cost.
They make great gifts for the art
lover in your life, or for the person who
has everything.
